What are the common driveway repair services? Depending on the type of driveway repair you’re looking for, common driveway repair services can include: driveway patching, driveway crack sealing or crack filling, driveway overlays, driveway sealing or driveway seal coating and sometimes the driveway repair that may be needed may be so much that it would be more cost effective to simply just completely remove and replace the entire driveway. The experts in our trusted contractor resource center will assess your driveway for free and will give you the best alternatives. Generally speaking… if the amount of remove and replace driveway repair needed on your driveway equals more than 1/3rd of the size of the entire square footage of the driveway, then it would be best to just remove and replace the entire driveway!
How frequent should driveway repair services or preventative maintenance service be performed on a driveway? Generally speaking a driveway should be sealed approximately every 3 to 5 years depending upon the traffic and the aesthetics of the driveway. If there’s a high volume of traffic on your driveway then every 2 to 3 years you may need to seal your driveway. If traffic is normal then every 3 to 5 years is the normal frequency to seal your driveway. However… if the looks are more important to you than the maintenance aspects then whenever you feel it needs it is when to seal your driveway. Keep in mind though that too much sealer on your driveway can actually damage it and shorten the life expectancy. Then you’ll be in need of driveway repair! If you would like to learn how to seal your driveway yourself visit our do it yourself center and subscribe for our free seal coating tutorial videos or read our ebook!

If you have a trash dumpster or the trash truck needs to drive on your driveway to collect trash from your home then you can plan on having driveway repair performed at some point in the future! Trash trucks are the most damaging type of vehicle that could ever drive on your driveway. If at all possible avoid allowing trash collection trucks to drive on your driveway at all!
How wide should a driveway be? The absolute minimum we recommend a driveway to be is 10’ feet wide with the optimum width being 12’ feet wide. The reason for this is that at 8’ feet wide, the likelihood of driving off of the edges is very high. This can crack asphalt driveways and concrete driveways with a moon shaped crack. These are the most difficult driveway repair to perform. As a matter of fact… these are irreparable especially if aesthetics are important to you!
How much slope should be on a driveway? Experts say that at least ¼” of slope per foot is more than enough of slope for a driveway. However keep in mind that a driveway cannot be installed for proper drainage for every scenario. There may come a time when the heaviest downpour of rain in 100 years may not drain properly. On the other hand… if your driveway drainage was designed to maintain proper drainage for a 100 year flood then you will have an extremely sloped driveway and the installation costs will be much higher! Honestly… you would never want your driveway design to accommodate enough slope for a 100 year flood… you would need a 4x4 vehicle to get in and out of your garage!
Is there any way to prevent weeds growing through my driveway? There is never a 100% guarantee that weeds will not grow through your driveway. The potency of herbicide will slowly deteriorate therefore new seeds that are deposited into cracks and holes in your driveway will be able to germinate and grow. This can sometimes cause premature driveway repair. If you see a weed beginning to grow through your driveway go to your local hardware store, purchase weed killer and apply it to the weed or weeds. Unfortunately there are a few varieties of weeds that weed killer simply cannot kill. In this case it may be best to hire a professional to eliminate the weed before driveway repair becomes a necessary.
How long will a driveway last? A properly installed driveway should last between 20 and 40 years depending on which type of driveway you have installed. Asphalt driveways, concrete driveways, brick paver driveways and gravel driveways all have different life expectancies.
Why do driveways fade? Driveways fade mainly because of oxidization from the sun coupled with the elements like rain and snow. A quality driveway sealer will slow down the process of oxidization dramatically. A good driveway repair company will recommend a quality sealer.
